Senior Services Needs Meals on Wheels Volunteers
Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) is looking for Meals on Wheels volunteers to deliver meals to homebound older adults residing in Alexandria.
Alexandria, VA – Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) is looking for Meals on Wheels volunteers to deliver meals to homebound older adults residing in Alexandria. SSA continued to deliver meals throughout the pandemic. We are grateful to the volunteers who stepped up to distribute meals multiple times a week over the past year.
But many of these people are returning to their offices, and SSA is looking for volunteers (fully vaccinated against Covid-19) to take their place.
Meals on Wheels are delivered 365 days a year, Monday-Saturday at 9:45 am and on Sunday at 11:30 am. Volunteers meet at a local catering company to receive hot and cold meals and a designated delivery route that usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half.
SSA uses a mobile app to get directions to their respective client delivery locations, so volunteers must have a cell phone. Training is provided and the app is user friendly. Prospective volunteers must complete a volunteer application and agree to a background check. SSA requires volunteers to follow safety protocols, including wearing a face mask while delivering.
