ALEXANDRIA, VA – As families gather for Thanksgiving, conversations often turn to the people who anchor our lives: parents, grandparents, neighbors, mentors—and ourselves. Aging is something every one of us shares, yet few of us take the time to prepare for it. Agenda:Alexandria hopes to change that with an encouraging and practical program on Monday, Nov. 25 at the Minnie Howard Campus.

“Aging in Alexandria: Getting Ready, Staying Ready” brings together trusted local experts in senior services, caregiving, legal planning, and digital safety. The goal isn’t to alarm but to empower—offering families clear guidance long before life’s curveballs arrive.

Moderator Rod Kuckro will lead a panel of professionals who have spent their careers helping Alexandrians age with dignity and confidence:

  • Mary Lee Anderson, Executive Director of Senior Services of Alexandria, focuses on connection, nutrition, transportation, and support for older adults.

  • Heidi Travis, Certified Care Manager and Executive Director of ElderTree Care Management, helps families navigate complex care needs.

  • Chris Leighton, an estate-planning attorney, offers insight into powers of attorney, wills, and the legal tools that provide stability and peace of mind.

  • Larry Lipman, former National Press Club president and AARP Virginia Speakers Bureau member, known for his engaging talks on tech scams targeting seniors.

Together, they’ll address decisions and challenges that often catch families off guard: housing, caregiving responsibilities, changing health needs, legal protections, and staying safe online. The conversation aims to give attendees practical steps they can use right away—and reassurance that no one has to face aging alone.

The program takes place in The Forum at the Minnie Howard Campus, 3775 W. Braddock Road.
6:30 p.m. – Light reception
7:00 p.m. – Program begins (90 minutes)

Whether you’re planning for yourself or supporting aging loved ones, this evening promises clarity, compassion, and community.

Please note that the program is on Monday, November 24 — not November 25. We regret the error
