Alexandria Vice Mayor Bennett-Parker Selected as NewDEAL Leader

There are now 169 leaders NewDEAL members from 45 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Alexandria, VA – Alexandria Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker has been selected as one of the top progressive pro-growth leaders in the country. The NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders) chose the Bennett-Parker as one of its 150-plus person national network to discuss and push for innovative solutions to spur sustainable economic growth.

“I’m excited to be a part of this new class and to work with them on NewDEAL’s efforts to expand opportunity in communities nationwide,” Bennett-Parker said in a statement. “As we continue to build on progress in Alexandria and to improve the quality of life for all Virginians, I look forward to sharing the lessons we have learned and hearing from other leaders who are setting the standard for effective governance.”

NewDEAL was founded seven years ago, and other members include Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney (D), Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-10th) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom. There are now 169 leaders NewDEAL members from 45 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) is an honorary co-chair of the group.

“While much of the political world is focused on the balance of power in D.C., we must also remember the tremendous impact that innovative state and local officials have on enacting policies that meet the demands of a changing world and expand opportunity for all,” Warner (D-VA) said. “Supporting the rising leaders in the NewDEAL has never been more important. We look forward to promoting the work of Vice Mayor Bennett-Parker and giving her the opportunity to learn from other leaders as she joins a network with a proven track record of governing successfully in diverse communities.”

Bennett-Parker, an Alexandria native who started her political career in January after leading all city council candidates last November. She helps lead Together We Bake, and in 2017 was selected as one of Alexandria’s 40 Under 40.
