Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Library builds community by providing opportunities to learn, explore, create and connect. Inspired by the 225th anniversary of the Library and the 80th anniversary of the 1939 Library Sit-In (the earliest known Library Civil Rights Sit-In), they are holding our inaugural celebration in 2020.

1939 Library Sit-In

Besides celebrating these milestones for the library, this celebration also raises funds for materials and programs, especially for young learners, and to preserve some of the most important documents in our local history collection.

The Alexandria Library is a pillar of our community, offering not only books and digital resources, but also ESL classes, computer classes, family story time, author discussions and so much more. In addition to hundreds of programs at each branch, the Library hosts four signature events annually: All Alexandria Reads (April); Summer Quest (June); the 1939 Sit-In Anniversary Celebration (August); and Le Tour d’Alexandria Library (October).

The Alexandria Library invites you to join this event.

If you are unable to attend, but would still like to support the library, they welcome you to make a donation on the ticket page.

If you would prefer to pay over the phone, please contact Linda Wesson at [email protected] or 703.746.1701. If you would like to pay by check, please register and select “pay by check” and follow the instructions.
