Harry Potter Tours Offer Wizardry Insight and Butterbeer Gelato in Alexandria July 28 and August 3

ALEXANDRIA, VA – In honor of Harry Potter’s birthday, the Stabler Leadbetter Apothecary is offering special tours exploring the historic muggle science and medicine that’s found in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

• August 3, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., Adults-Only Tours

Family-Friendly Tour: The Real World Science Behind Harry Potter

The museum is offering 45-minute family-friendly tours that explore the muggle science and medicine behind J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series. Event partners: Hooray for Books! will be selling wizarding merchandise on-site and Dolci Gelati will have Butterbeer gelato available in their shop. The event includes potion making and a photo booth—don’t forget your camera. Tours begin every 15 minutes. At least one paying adult per five children required.

Adults-Only Tour: The Real World Science Behind Harry Potter

Bring your friends for a fun night at the Apothecary Museum featuring your favorite series! Explore the muggle science and medicine with tour guides, raise a toast to Harry’s birthday with a magical cocktail, and allow Professor Severus Snape to ensnare your senses as he demonstrates his magical skills. Afterward, visit Dolci Gelati for a scrumptious bowl of Butterbeer ice cream. Tours of 20 people will begin every hour from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Cost is $20 per person.

The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum in Old Town Alexandria is noted for its outstanding collection of medicinal herbs, shop furnishings, apothecary bottles and equipment, many still in their original location. It also has a spectacular collection of archival materials, including journals, letters and diaries, prescription and formula books, ledgers, orders and invoices. The names of famous customers appear in the documents, including Martha Washington, Nelly Custis, and Robert E. Lee.
