ALEXANDRIA, VA – Starting Sunday, September 5, 2021 the city public bus system in Alexandria (DASH buses) will be fare-free for all passengers, and here’s how students and school workers are affected:

Starting Sept. 5, Alexandria City High School (ACHS) students will no longer need to use an app or ID card to board DASH buses for free. All passengers, including adults, will be able to board for free at all times.

Major bus route changes and numbering changes will take effect and impact DASH riders on all routes.

  • ACHS students who currently use the DASH AT6 route will see increased bus service along King Street with the new Line 31 running every 10-15 minutes from Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria to Old Town.
  • ACHS students who use the AT9 may be able to use the new Line 36A/36B, which runs every 15 minutes from Mark Center to Potomac Yard via ACHS campus.
  • The Metrobus 28A route will also be realigned to Duke Street on Sept. 5 and will no longer serve the ACHS campus.
  • The New DASH Network is intended to provide more useful and frequent bus service to more people in locations including the West End, Old Town, Parkfairfax, Arlandria and Potomac Yard.

For more information about the New DASH Network, including route comparison tables, the New DASH Network Trip Planner, and translations to Spanish and Amharic, visit the New DASH Network webpage.
