Cherry Blossoms Should Peak March 17—20

According the latest announcement from the National Park Service, the cherry blossoms will peak in mid-March around the 17th, IF, no crazy snowstorms or weather anomalies occur.

The year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival happens from March 20 to April 15, with special highlights taking place throughout the three-week period, starting with a Saturday opening ceremony on March 24, the Kite Festival on March 31 and the National Cherry Blossom Parade closing out the event on April 14.

There is a new event called Petalpalooza at The Wharf, happening on April 7, with live music, beer gardens, stuff for kids and fireworks at the end.

And the Sakura Matsuri Japanese street festival on Pennsylvania Avenue NW is back after a two-year absence. The street festival will begin right after the Cherry Blossom parade on April 14.
