Spring Clean-Up Schedule
Residents that receive City refuse collection services are eligible to receive Spring Clean-Up on a Saturday in April or May.  Residents are encouraged to clear out household clutter and place unwanted bulky trash and metal items at the curb on your neighborhood collection date.  The City is divided into four collection areas and each area is assigned a specific Saturday.  Metals and electronics should be separated from other collection items, as they will be picked up during a separate collection. Please do not set out yard waste.  To view a map of your neighborhood collection date, visit: alexandriava.gov/RefuseCollection
Area 1 – Saturday, April 14
Area 2 – Saturday, April 21
Area 3 – Saturday, April 28
Area 4 – Saturday, May 5
One-Hour Early Start for Trash & Recycling Collection
Refuse and recycling collection will shift to ‘warm weather’ hours. Pick-up operations begin an hour earlier starting Tuesday, May 1.  This change helps collection crews avoid the high mid-day heat of summer. Remember, refuse and recycling materials should be set out by 6 a.m. on your regular collection day and location.  For more information visit alexandriava.gov/RefuseCollection .
Mulch Delivery – Place Orders Now
City of Alexandria residents can place orders for mulch using the City’s new online ordering system. Residents can select quantity and type of mulch, and their preferred date for delivery in April, May, or June. Delivery dates and times are limited, and appointments are on a first come first served basis.  Remember, mulch is free to residents and available for pick up 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Mon. through Sat., 4215 Eisenhower Ave. starting March 7.  There is a $50 delivery charge for either a half truck load (3 CY) or a full load (6 CY). For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/YardWaste.
Grass Clippings Collected with Yard Waste
Residents that receive City refuse collection services should separate yard waste including grass clippings from regular trash for special collection. Yard waste should be placed next to your trash container in a reusable container with a ‘Yard Waste Only’ decal attached or paper yard waste bag for special collection on your regular refuse collection day.  Remember, grass clippings placed in plastic bags cannot be collected for composting and will be disposed of as trash.  For more information visit alexandriava.gov/YardWaste.
Alexandria Earth Day – April 28
This year’s celebration will be held at Lenny Harris Memorial Fields at Braddock Park, 1005 Mt. Vernon Ave., on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme is ‘Local Action, Global Impact’. The event will include educational exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages. For more information visit: alexandriava.gov/EarthDay .
Wedding Plans: More fun, less stuff!
Spring is a time of flowers, warm sunshine, and for some of us, weddings! Traditionally, brides and grooms-to-be create a gift registry to guide and coordinate gift selection from family and friends.  If you happen to be planning a wedding or know someone who is, consider an alternative registry that emphasizes relationships, community, and sustainability rather than good ole, store-bought stuff.  For more information visit: www.newdream.org.
