Alexandria, VA – The 13th annual Alexandria Film Festival call for entries is open to filmmakers worldwide for films of any length and genre via the FilmFreeway digital platform.

The annual Veterans Day Weekend event takes place November 7-10, 2019 in historic Alexandria, Virginia. Judges will evaluate more than three hundred films and select the best for the Alexandria Film Festival. More than 60 free and ticketed films will ultimately delight and entertain area motion picture enthusiasts, most of them premiers. The AMC Hoffman 22 Theater and Beatley Central Library in Alexandria continue to serve as primary screening venues for the AFF.

“We are honored to host the AFF 2019 over the Veterans’ Day holiday weekend, November 7-10,” said festival chair Margaret Wohler. “We hope to again attract the best in independent filmmaking. Please join us for a weekend of storytelling, civil dialogue, parties and fun centered around the film, arts, and creative people! We look forward to meeting you and sharing films that cannot be viewed anywhere else. … See you then.”

Awards offered include Best of Fest (with a $300 prize), Documentary Award ($250), a Grand Jury Award ($200) and an Audience Award ($100). The Joe Cantwell Award for Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking, an honor endowed by local filmmaker and entrepreneur Joe Cantwell (a past AFF award winner for his film “Ride The Divide”), will be awarded for the second year running. Other additional awards may be offered at discretion of the judges.
