Trivia Night

Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden

Staff members at Carlyle House Historic Park and the Lee-Fendall House Museum have combined their random knowledge to create bi-weekly trivia nights in the beautiful Lee-Fendall gardens throughout the summer. Test your knowledge on all things from pop culture to history! Tickets are $7 per person, which includes 1 drink ticket. Additional drinks can be purchased at our cash bar. Teams may have up to 6 members on them. Registration slots are first come, first served, so register early to save your spot! Ages 21+ only. Purple Heart Commemoration

Starts at 10:30 a.m.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon

3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway

Pay tribute to the oldest military decoration in the U.S. at the home of its founder, George Washington. the estate’s official National Purple Heart Day Ceremony on the East Lawn overlooking the Potomac River at 10:30AM (weather permitting). Enjoy a musical prelude before the ceremony commences. The ceremony includes the presentation of the colors, a musical performance by the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and remarks by a Mount Vernon representative and the keynote speaker Captain Matthew Kutilek. Included with general admission, free for Purple Heart recipients.

The War of 1812 in Alexandria – A Walking Tour

Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden

614 Oronoco St.

A guided walking tour of people and places in Old Town associated with the War of 1812 and the British occupation of Alexandria in 1814. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes. Tour space is limited, so the purchase of tickets in advance is highly recommended. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. $10 in advance, $15 at door. Free for members.

Apothecary Geek Tour: An Outlandish Tour

Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum

105-107 S. Fairfax St.

Tour this historic apothecary and learn about a few of the herbal medicines featured in Diana Gabaldon’s celebrated Outlander series of novels. Find out about everything from cascara to dauco seeds. Recommended for ages 18 and up. Tour is 11 a.m.-noon. Please arrive between 10:45-11 a.m., as the museum is not open to the public until 1 p.m. and the doors will be locked when the tour begins at

Old Town Beer, Wine, and Dog Festival

At the Old Town Beer, Wine and Dog Festival guests will have the opportunity to enjoy locally sourced craft beer, wine and food while relaxing to live music with their favorite four-legged friends. Our goal is to provide an alternative to the typical adoption procedure by combining food, drinks, and dogs in a social environment. Whether you are adopting a dog or not, come help socialize the community’s sheltered and fostered dogs that are looking for a future home! $5

Beyond Paper and Stone

Staff of the Carlyle House would like to share our love of the collections with guests. Various objects will be pulled from our collections to be displayed and discussed. We will be explaining collections care and maintenance, preservation that has taken place on objects, and how the care of these objects impacts the story told. $15

Join the Ballyshaners at Alexandria’s biggest outdoor party. Eat, drink, and be Irish. Food, Beer Truck, Pipe Bands, Irish Dancers, Crafts, Jewelry, and much more.

Apothecary Geek Tour: A Magical Apothecary

Learn about the muggle botanical science that inspired the potions and herbology in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. You’ll even make your own magical sleeping potion! Adults and children ages 8 and older welcome. Tour is from 11 AM to 12 PM; please arrive between 10:45 and 11 AM, since the museum does not open to the public until 1 PM and the doors will be locked when the tour begins at 11.
