Check out Senior Services of Alexandria’s Virtual Summer Programming

Have some Fun and Learn Something Fun while Staying Safe at Home!

We all enjoyed gathering for SSA’s Creative Connection, Speaker Series, and Coffee Connection, and will do so again. Until then, stay with us through SSA Connection and very soon on Zoom for SSA-created virtual programs on topics of interest to you. (Photos: SSA)

Alexandria, VA – Summertime is when we want to get out and do things, travel and have fun. This summer is very different with COVID-19 still looming, and the recommendation that older adults stay safe at home. Since SSA had to pause its monthly Speaker Series, local history tours, coffee, and creative connections in the spring due to the pandemic outbreak, we have regrouped and started sending out a weekly message called SSA Connection. This communique features fun and uplifting videos, online events about health and exercise, tours of local historic sites, and author talks. We also increased our communications with SSA’s Senior Ambassadors passing along programs of interest to the senior community several times a week.

Now we’ve decided to take it a step further by launching SSA-created virtual programs on topics of interest to older adults. This will be a chance for participants to interact with others via Zoom. We surveyed our speaker series and other program participants to see what topics they want to learn about. We are excited about taking SSA’s outreach program virtual. It is important to continue giving older adults an outlet to participate in group events in a safe way, as many live alone.

SSA looks forward to this new venture and hopes to see you on Zoom! If you have ideas about what topics you would like us to cover, please email me at [email protected].
