Lives Bound Together: Slavery at George Washington’s Mount Vernon

In this moving exhibit, learn the stories of some of the people enslaved by Washington. See artifacts from the time period. Hear how Washington’s views about slavery changed during his later years, inspiring him to include a provision in his will that freed the slaves who lived and worked at Mount Vernon upon his death. This exhibit displays art of animals that lift hearts, an ongoing theme of the Hospital. All artwork featured is by members of the Del Ray Artisans and is part of the Gallery Without Walls program.

Kevin Dauray

Kevin is Publisher's Assistant with The Zebra Press. He has been working for Alexandria's "Good News" newspaper since 2019. A graduate of George Mason University, he earned a bachelor's in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. He also studied at the Columbia School of Broadcasting and holds a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. He is an alumnus of T.C. Williams High School.
