ALEXANDRIA, VA – Michael Choi, at 25, is as hot as the Nashville-style chicken he is selling.  He just opened the second location of his culinary baby, Wooboi Hot Chicken, at 531 Montgomery Street. With the flagship restaurant in Herndon excelling, Choi decided to be part of the explosion happening in the booming North Old Town section of Alexandria.

Born in Boston to Korean parents, Choi studied American and French cuisine at the Culinary Institute of America. “I decided to drop everything I had and go there,” Choi notes of his decision to study the culinary arts. “I took what I learned to form the concept of my own dream.” This eclectic mixture of cultures helped spawn Wooboi, a Nashville hot chicken joint local to Virginia.

Monday, November 2 was the Alexandria location’s grand opening. While there was no official ribbon cutting, customers did not hesitate to break in the new restaurant’s dining room, complete with social-distancing guidelines and information signs.

What’s on the Menu?

Wooboi’s menu features free-range, no-antibiotic chicken breasts and tenders fried in 100% highly refined peanut oil. Customers can order their chicken on a scale of six different spice levels: zero being no spice, six being “hotter than you think.” While Wooboi suggests trying at least a level one, this range of spices provides something for all customers to enjoy.

Accompanying their chicken, Wooboi also features side sauces, like their specialty “Woo sauce,” waffle fries, mayo-based creamy mac salad, and even TWO SECRET MENU ITEMS, but you have to stop by the restaurant to find out what they are!

“We try to inspire here at Wooboi. I started this dream at fifteen in high school. Ten years later, I’m opening my second restaurant,” states Choi. Owned and operated by a sincere entrepreneur, Wooboi will fit right into the local Alexandria culture.
