WMATA Informs Metrorail Riders of Service Changes

ALEXANDRIA, VA-There are some changes coming to Metro service this week as part of the Platform Improvement Project. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced that starting today, stations will close at 11 p.m and open at 5 a.m. This will be in effect until Friday, Feb. 19.

Eighty-nine of 91 stations will operate on a normal weekday service schedule. Note that the Arlington Cemetery and Addison Road stations will be closed until May 23. Blue Line service will not be available at these stops. Trains on the Yellow Line will operate between Franconia-Springfield and Mt. Vernon Square.

Helpful Reminders

  • Trains on the Red Line will arrive every six to 15 minutes
  • On the Silver Line, trains will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes
  • Trains on the Yellow Line will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes and operate in two segments, between Huntington and Greenbelt, and Franconia-Springfield and Mount Vernon Square
  • On the Green and Orange Lines, trains will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes

The train frequencies on the Red Line are in accordance with WMATA’s revised budget that took effect yesterday. Train frequencies on that line remain unchanged after 7 p.m.

Weeknight Service

On weeknights, train service will operate at regular intervals.

  • On the Orange Line, trains will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes
  • On the Silver Line, trains will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes
  • On the Yellow Line, trains will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes
  • On the Green Line, trains will arrive every 12 to 20 minutes
