Join Volunteer Alexandria in SERVE-a-thon in May
ALEXANDRIA, VA-SERVE-a-thon provides the opportunity for individuals and groups to volunteer together on a single day or a week. In a normal year, SERVE-a-thon gathers hundreds of volunteers to complete more than 20 service projects. This year, of course, is different, but thanks to our sponsor Harris Teeter, SERVE-a-thon is offering a range of opportunities in which over 300 volunteers can safely make a big difference in our city.
SERVE-a-thon will take place from May 10 to 15. Register as an individual or team for DIY projects to do together via Zoom, in your office, or at home. The various activities will benefit health care workers, fire fighters, nonprofit staff, individuals and families moving into their own space, and people who showed kindness toward someone else. Limited outdoor/in-person projects will also be available for groups of no more than 10.
How does SERVE-a-thon work?
– Form a team! Identify a team captain, recruit team members, register the team online, and distribute all project details/materials. Register at http://bit.ly/teamserve.
– Each team pays a registration fee and receives materials for DIY kits with instructions or an outdoor activity for up to 10 people. Each team will be recognized on the Volunteer Alexandria website and in our monthly newsletter.
– Individuals are welcome to register at http://bit.ly/serveindi. Individuals pay a registration fee and receive materials for a DIY kit with instructions or they can select an outdoor/in-person activity.
– All participants are encouraged to take photos or create short videos to post on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter sharing their experience and tagging Volunteer Alexandria.
Who does this benefit?
All kits will be donated to agencies serving health care workers, first responders and nonprofit staff, individuals and families moving into their own space, and people helping others.
Through SERVE-a-thon, Volunteer Alexandria continues to mobilize people to serve families and individuals in need. Your participation and support enable us to coordinate, manage, and prepare volunteers to give their time and talent to local nonprofit agencies in need of human capital. These nonprofits can then focus on their missions of conquering Alexandria’s significant community challenges with the assistance of ready, willing, and able volunteers.
You can support this vital project by donating or becoming a sponsor. Sponsorship starts at $500. Email Marion Brunken, Executive Director at [email protected] or donate today at volunteer-alexandria.square.site.
