Alexandria Police Receive 1st Place Award Related to Traffic Safety Program

The Alexandria Police Department  received an award recognizing their efforts in promoting traffic safety in the City of Alexandria in 2017. The Alexandria Police Department received 1st Place in the Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge for municipalities with 226-375 Officers. The award presentation took place during the VACP’s 93rd Annual Training Conference on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, in Roanoke, VA.

The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) Law Enforcement Challenge is a traffic safety recognition program that recognizes agencies that excel in keeping their roadways safe. It is designed to strengthen and support traffic safety and provides agencies an opportunity to make a difference in the communities they serve, learn from each other, and establish future goals in traffic education and enforcement.

  1. Is this some kind of sick joke? I’ve lived all over the country and the Alexandria Police department has been by far the worst when it comes to traffic safety. They refuse to do their jobs and direct traffic when lights are out at major intersections in the city. People constantly run the red light at the the Duke St and N. Ripley but the Alexandria Police department refuses to do any kind of enforcement there. Pretty much the only traffic related thing the police in Alexandria do is the occasional speed trap and even those are done from a selection number of positions so that people can easily avoid them by knowing where those positions are located (even without using Waze).
