Old Town North Loves Its Pets
By Margaret Townsend
Alexandria, VA – Throughout October, dog and cat friendly events throughout the city will celebrate Alexandrians’ love for their four-legged friends. Old Town North is no exception.
October 1-31, the Old Town North Community Partnership (OTNCP) presents the annual Dogtoberfest, a celebration of all things dog and cat.
Dog-friendly, family-friendly events will take place in Montgomery Park and at the Old Town North Farmers and Artisans Market, Alexandria’s favorite dog-friendly market, all month long. Events and activities include pumpkin decorating, palm and paw readings, trick-or-treating at the market, and the Pup Promenade.
Featured animal rescue organizations include the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), King Street Cats, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, and Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue.
Also, on Sunday, October 16, AWLA hosts Paws in the Park at Oronoco Bay Park from 11 am – 4 pm. The event is free to all human and animal attendees and will include entertainment, vendors, and great food and drinks for pets, children, and adults. Well-behaved, leashed pets or pets in strollers are welcome at the event.
Old Town North resident, owner of local business Grateful Pup Dog Treats, and Paws in the Park Sponsor Laura Norfolk says, “Grateful Pup and I are grateful to be a part of the Old Town North Community. It is such a dog-and neighbor-friendly community.”
Revel in these pet-friendly October events, then end the month on a sweet note with the Old Town Doggie Trick-or-Treat on Sunday, October 30. For more information on all events, email [email protected].
