Alexandria, VA – Mount Vernon District Police Commander Captain Fred Chambers, pictured here, spoke to interested community members at a recent Public Safety Community Meeting held at Walt Whitman Middle school. Chambers discussed crime statistics and while some categories of crime are rising, Fairfax Police Chief  Kevin Davis explained that in many cases, the victims are known to each other, and most cases have been closed and the suspects arrested. Chief Davis asked residents to be proactive by locking their homes and cars, reporting suspicious activity and creating Neighborhood Watch groups. Mount Vernon Supervisor Dan Storck organized the meeting which was also attended by Deputy County Executive Tom Arnold,  Lt. Veva Wallace, Mount Vernon School Board Representative Karen Corbett Sanders and State Sen. Scott Surovell.
