Alexandria Residents Asked to Comment on Proposed Renovation for Simpson Park

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The City of Alexandria announced in an eNews bulletin this morning (April 10) that a community meeting will take place Wednesday, April 26 at Simpson Park to discuss a proposed renovation of the site. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., will be hosted by Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities and the Department of Project Implementation.

The bulletin indicates that the renovation is based on recommendations from the 2014 Citywide Parks Improvement Plan.

“This plan includes 18 community recommendations for Eugene Simpson Stadium Park, and one amendment in 2021. Several of the plan recommendations have been completed or are currently in implementation,” the bulletin reads. “The proposed design seeks to implement outstanding recommendations and balance various community recreation needs.”

Details can be found HERE. Improvements include but are not limited to:

  • installing new bleachers
  • Dugout improvements
  • A “dedicated concession stand”
  • ADA compliant access from E. Monroe to the dog parks and fields

Eugene Simpson Stadium Park is located at 428 E. Monroe Ave. In the event of rain, the meeting will be moved inside to the YMCA at 420 E. Monroe.
