ALEXANDRIA, VA -It’s nearly time to go back to school. On Saturday, Aug. 19, Hilco Redevelopment Partners, in partnership with Firefighters & Friends and Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority, is hosting a backpack giveaway. The event is taking place at two locations: Charles Houston Rec Center (901 Wythe St.) from 10 a.m. to noon, and William Ramsey Elementary School (5700 Sanger Ave.) from 1 to 3 p.m.
Volunteers will be handing out 700 to 800 backpacks filled with school supplies. The supplies are being made available to families who live in areas built by ARHA.
Hilco employers will hand out backpacks at the Charles Houston Rec Center. It is near the former Potomac River Generation Station, which Hilco is redeveloping, in Old Town North. [SEE ALSO: Speed Cameras Near School Zones Active Sept. 18]
