(Photos: “Governor” Burke)

Alexandria, VA – Last month’s Unseen Old Town features the grave of William Fowle (1783-1860) located in the Christ Church graveyard on Wilkes St. Originally from Massachusetts, Fowle became a prominent banker and shipping merchant in Alexandria. He was also the founder of the Alexandria Lyceum. His family lived for five generations at their 711 Prince St. home until 1969. A photo of the Patton-Fowle house, which prominent Boston architect Charles Bullfinch designed, is included.

Have you noticed this around town? Where is it? What do you know about it?
