Mount Vernon at Home Celebrates 15 Years of Supporting Older Adults
By Maribeth Bersani, Gala Chair, Mount Vernon at Home
Alexandria, VA – Mount Vernon at Home (MVAH) was founded 15 years ago by a group of residents who looked at the Beacon Hill (Boston) model and launched a local village here. The village concept supports seniors who want to age in place, remaining in their homes in known environments and with a local support system.
Members can receive services such as transportation to the grocery store, physician visits, help with home maintenance, IT needs, and other errands. Many social activities are offered, from lectures to book clubs, happy hours, and dining out. Volunteers provide all of the activities and services.
MVAH will celebrate our 15th anniversary all year, but our major celebration will be our annual CELEBRATE! Gala on Thursday, May 23, at River Farm from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will feature food and wine, a brief program, and a live auction, including dining and spa packages, a week’s vacation, and the obligatory Raise the Paddle. We hope you can join us. Details can be found at mountvernonathome.org/celebrate-2024-gala/.
We are always looking for additional volunteers, so if you are interested in helping seniors in the Mount Vernon area, please check out our website at mountvernonathome.org.
