Virginia Tech DC Area Launch Team Named Business Leader of the Year by The Chamber ALX

Alexandria, VA – For only the third time in its history, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce has selected a team as Business Leader of the Year. The 2025 honoree: the Virginia Tech DC Area Launch Team, which is being recognized for its exceptional contributions to education, innovation, and regional growth.
The team led the opening of Academic Building One in Potomac Yard — a milestone that marks a new era for Virginia Tech’s presence in Northern Virginia. The 11-story, 300,000-square-foot facility, which opened in January, is a hub for graduate education and research in computer science and engineering, located just steps from the Potomac Yard–VT Metro Station.
Beyond infrastructure, the team is transforming Alexandria’s talent pipeline through partnerships with Alexandria City Public Schools. Together, they’ve launched STEM initiatives that include computing pathways for K–12 students, mentorship programs, and professional development for teachers — all aimed at inspiring future innovators.
The award also honors key leaders like Dr. Lance Collins, Executive Director of the Innovation Campus, and David Baker, Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff, for their vision, public service, and commitment to community impact.
Virginia Tech’s work exemplifies the values of Alexandria’s business community — innovation, collaboration, and long-term investment.
The Chamber will recognize the team at the Best in Business Awards, presented by Burke & Herbert Bank, on October 23, 2025.
