ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) recently sent a reminder to families that students in grades 6-12 can access free online tutoring 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via Canvas.

Tutoring is offered for 67 subjects via Tutor.com, including algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, biology, chemistry, world history, U.S. history and more. All students have to do is go to Canvas, choose “student resources” on their dashboard, click the “online tutoring” link on the left and select a subject. They will be connected with a tutor in less than 60 seconds.

Additional tutoring resources available through Tutor.com include:

  • Test preparation support: Advanced Placement (AP) courses and test prep support, as well as test preparation support for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), American College Test (ACT) and General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is included.
  • Writing support: Students can receive help with writing essays from an essay writing tutor online. Tutor.com offers a 24-hour essay review for students to submit rubrics to receive targeted feedback.
  • Online tutoring is also offered in the following subjects: Spanish, math, science and social studies. In addition, tutoring is available to Spanish speakers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

ACPS Virtual Learning Administrator Dr. Izora Everson explained the services provided by Tutor.com are that of a homework helping tool. “The benefits are that it is available to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week if they are stuck on anything at a time that they would not be able to receive support from their teachers,” she said. Another benefit is that a student’s sessions are stored and accessible to the student for future review, if needed.

Students can request tutors and arrange for weekly tutoring sessions with a favorite tutor to get the additional help needed. Learn how to access free online tutoring today!
