ALIVE!’s Signature Fundraiser on March 8 Is a Sellout
Hunger-fighting organization plans evening of food and fun at Alexandria's Beth El Hebrew Congregation

ALEXANDRIA, VA-AlIVE! has announced that all two hundred seats for Empty Bowls Alexandria have been snapped up. The annual dinner raises funds and awareness of ALIVE!’s programs. These programs provide essential groceries, transitional shelter, emergency financial assistance, and donations of furniture and housewares for Alexandrians in need.
The eighth annual Empty Bowls will be held at Beth El Hebrew Congregation (3830 Seminary Rd.). Beth El is one of 50 faith communities in the city that support ALIVE!’s mission to alleviate food and housing insecurity.
“What’s interesting about this ALIVE! event is that it’s our only sit-down fundraiser of the year,” says Communications Director Karl Bach. “The other big fundraising event that we have in October every year is the Annual StepALIVE! Walkathon so this is a great opportunity for folks to support ALIVE!, to come together, share a meal, and raise funds for all the programs that ALIVE! runs throughout the year.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Empty Bowls runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Attire is casual.
The fundraising dinner will feature a night filled with delicious food from local restaurants, live music, a silent auction, and a handcrafted bowl to take home.
“What’s also unique about this event is the food is donated by local restaurants so you’re really going to get a taste of Alexandria by coming to this event,” Bach says. “And you leave with a ceramic bowl that’s put together by local artisans as a commemorative piece.”
Mayor Alyia Gaskins is the keynote speaker. The honorary co-chairs are Lauren Fisher of the Del Ray Business Association, Mary Ann Burstein of West End Business Association, and Morgan Babcock of Carlyle Council. The Jen Walker Team is the Community Champion Sponsor.
