Alexandria, VA – On the evening of Tuesday, August 5, Alexandria’s neighborhoods will once again come alive with the sounds of laughter, music, and community connection as residents gather for National Night Out 2025—a beloved annual event that blends safety, celebration, and civic pride.

From the cobblestone streets of Old Town to the Main Street of Del Ray and the welcoming spots of the West End, Alexandrians are invited to turn on their porch lights, step outside, and join their neighbors for a night that’s all about building stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

More Than a Party—It’s a Tradition of Trust

Now in its 41st year nationwide, National Night Out has become a treasured summer tradition in Alexandria, bringing residents together with the city’s first responders in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It’s a time when kids high-five firefighters, parents chat with patrol officers, and neighbors gather over grilled burgers and homemade desserts.

“National Night Out is our chance to show how Alexandria comes together,” the Alexandria Police Chief told Zebra last year. “It’s about trust, transparency, and those everyday relationships that make our city not just safe—but deeply connected.”

What to Expect Across the City

Each neighborhood brings its own flavor to the celebration, with events ranging from cookouts and block parties to lawn games and live music. The Alexandria Police Department will be out in full force, joined by the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, and other public safety agencies.

Special units—including the K-9 team, Motorcycle and Bike Patrols, SWAT, and community outreach staff—will rotate between events, offering hands-on demonstrations, giveaways, and plenty of photo ops for the whole family.

Expect to see:

  • Fire trucks and police cruisers up close (horns optional!)
  • K-9 demonstrations and meet-the-dog moments
  • Kids’ activities like face painting, bubbles, and obstacle courses
  • Free snacks, drinks, and good old-fashioned community cheer

Why It Matters

“We serve better when we know the people we serve,” said Sheriff Sean Casey. “National Night Out gives us the chance to listen, laugh, and build those bonds face-to-face.”

So whether you’ve lived in Alexandria for 30 years or just moved in last month—grab a lawn chair, bring a dish to share, and be part of the celebration. The city’s beating heart is its people, and on August 5, the whole town is invited to shine.
