Alexandria Early Voting Begins June 18 for August Primary Election

Voters Can Cast Ballots Early, By Mail, or on Election Day for August 4 Dual Party Primary

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Early voting for the August 4, 2026, Dual Party Primary Election begins Thursday, June 18, in the City of Alexandria.

The election will include either a Democratic Party primary for Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, 8th District, or a Republican Party primary for Member of the U.S. Senate. Qualified Virginia voters may choose one party ballot but cannot vote in both primaries.

Early In-Person Voting

The deadline to vote early in person is Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Office of Voter Registration & Elections

Early voting begins June 18 and is available:

  • Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Closed June 19 and July 3

Additional and Extended Hours

  • Sunday, July 19: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 25: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 26: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 28: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 30: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 1: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early voting will be available only during the following times:

  • Sunday, July 19: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 25: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 26: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voting by Mail

Applications for mail-in ballots must be received by the Office of Voter Registration & Elections no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Voters may request a ballot by:

Completed ballots must be:

  • Returned to the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day, August 4, or
  • Postmarked by August 4 and received by noon on Friday, August 7

Voters planning to cast a ballot in person do not need to submit a mail ballot application.

Ballot Drop Box Locations

A secure outdoor ballot drop box is available 24 hours a day in front of the Office of Voter Registration & Elections and will remain accessible through 7 p.m. on August 4.

Additional drop boxes will be available:

  • At Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library during early voting hours
  • At all Alexandria polling places on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voter Registration Deadlines

The deadline for standard voter registration is July 24, 2026.

Virginia’s Same Day Registration period begins immediately afterward and continues through Election Day on August 4.

Residents can register to vote, update voter information, or check registration status through Virginia’s voter registration portal.
