Calling All Young Singers: Alexandria Children’s Chorus Opens Fall Registration
Children in kindergarten through sixth grade can try two rehearsals free—no audition or experience required.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Does your child sing in the car, around the house or with absolute confidence in the shower? The Alexandria Children’s Chorus wants to hear them.
Registration is now open for the chorus’ 11th season, welcoming children in kindergarten through sixth grade for music, friendship and plenty of opportunities to perform around Alexandria. No audition or prior choral experience is required.
New singers can try two rehearsals free of charge before deciding whether the chorus is a good fit. Rehearsals begin Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Saint Clement Episcopal Church, 1701 N. Quaker Lane.
Children do not have to live in Alexandria to join, and scholarships are available. Financial need, the organization says, will never be a barrier to participation.
More Than Just a Chorus
From learning the basics of singing together to discovering music from around the world, the Alexandria Children’s Chorus offers a noncompetitive place for young voices to grow.
Its singers perform American and international folk music as well as classical repertoire, building musicianship skills while becoming part of a group that is as much about community as it is about music. Students in grades 3 through 6 may also audition for the Chamber Choir.
Founded in 2015 as the Del Ray Kinderchoir, the nonprofit Alexandria Children’s Chorus was created around a simple idea: every child can sing. The group now describes itself as Alexandria’s only children’s community chorus.
Taking the Stage Around Alexandria
The season will not be confined to rehearsal rooms. In addition to the chorus’ fall and spring concerts, singers are scheduled to appear at Art on the Avenue, a Halloween community concert with the Alexandria Singers, Del Ray’s tree lighting, the 54th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Program, the One Voice Alexandria Choral Festival and local retirement homes.
The group recently celebrated its 10th anniversary during the 2025–26 season. Last spring, it joined more than 400 singers from seven other Alexandria-based choirs at the One Voice Alexandria Choral Festival at Schlesinger Hall.
For young people ready to make music, meet other kids and perhaps find a new favorite thing to do after school, the chorus is ready for a new class of voices.
