Outdoor Music, New Townhouses and an Address Appeal Head to Alexandria Council

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria residents have several days to study—and speak about—a Saturday City Council docket that reaches from Del Ray entertainment to new housing and City tax rules.
Council’s public-hearing meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center, 4850 Mark Center Drive. Residents may attend in person, watch online or register to address Council remotely.
The final City docket includes a special-use permit request for outdoor live entertainment at 1913 Mount Vernon Ave. The applicant is also asking to place the entertainment stage within the required vision-clearance area. The Planning Commission recommended approval 6–0.
Another case proposes five townhouses at 724, 726 and 728 N. Patrick St. The cluster development requires a development special-use permit, site plan and modifications. Planning commissioners also recommended that project for approval.
Council will also consider converting part of a nonresidential building at 911 C and D Pendleton St. to residential use, as well as redevelopment of a single-family house on a substandard lot at 1 E. Custis Ave.
Taxes, Addresses and Another Five Townhouses
Two proposed City Code changes are on the consent docket. One would change Alexandria’s fee for bad checks. The other concerns the personal-property-tax due date for federal and essential federal employees furloughed during a government shutdown.
An individual hearing will take up an appeal of the City manager’s decision to renumber the properties at 3600 and 3600½ Russell Road.
Council will also receive information about a separate North Alfred Street development. That approved plan would divide 415 N. Alfred St. into five lots and build five townhouses with detached garages and accessory dwelling units.
