Gridiron Preview: All Four Alexandria High Schools Hit the Field This Weekend

ALEXANDRIA, VA — All four Alexandria high school football programs are in action this weekend, beginning Friday night at Parker-Gray Stadium and continuing with three Saturday afternoon games.
Alexandria City puts its undefeated record on the line at home, Bishop Ireton travels to Bethesda, and Episcopal and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes host Saturday games. Here is the local gridiron rundown.
Alexandria City High School Titans
Matchup: W.T. Woodson Cavaliers at Alexandria City Titans
When: Friday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m.
Where: Parker-Gray Stadium, 3330 King St., Alexandria, VA 22302
Alexandria City enters 4-0 after wins over Lake Braddock (21-7), Potomac Senior (17-14), Crossland (35-0) and Lewis (49-7). The Titans have outscored opponents 122-28.
Woodson is 1-2 after a season-opening loss to Gar-Field, a 28-7 win over Thomas Edison and a 48-28 loss to Oakton. A Titans win would produce Alexandria City’s first 5-0 start of the season.
Gates open at 6 p.m. The school prohibits backpacks and other bags, outside food and drinks, whistles, air horns, cowbells and similar noisemakers. Elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult; there is no re-entry. Check Alexandria City athletics for ticket information.
Bishop Ireton High School Cardinals
Matchup: Bishop Ireton Cardinals at Landon School Bears
When: Saturday, Sept. 26, 1 p.m.
Where: William H. Triplett Field at Robinson M. Bordley Stadium, 6101 Wilson Lane, Bethesda, MD 20817
Bishop Ireton is 2-2, having rebounded from early losses to Bullis and Our Lady of Mount Carmel with victories over McKinley Tech (40-30) and Ron Brown (23-6). Landon, 2-1, opened with a loss to Boys’ Latin before beating Paul VI and Flint Hill.

Episcopal High School Maroon
Matchup: Flint Hill School Huskies at Episcopal Maroon
When: Saturday, Sept. 26, 2 p.m.
Where: Hummel Bowl, 1200 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA 22302
Episcopal is unbeaten at 2-0 after a 20-8 win over Paul VI and a 34-0 shutout of Archbishop Curley. Flint Hill arrives 2-1, with wins over Fredericksburg Christian and Jackson-Reed before last week’s 48-42 loss to Landon.

St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School Saints
Matchup: Sidwell Friends School Quakers at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Saints
When: Saturday, Sept. 26, 1 p.m.
Where: Upper School Moss Football Field, 1000 St. Stephen’s Road, Alexandria, VA 22304
St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes is 1-2 after opening with a 28-20 victory over Christchurch School, followed by losses to Severn School and Saint James. The Saints host a Sidwell Friends team seeking its first win after three close losses. The game is part of SSSAS Homecoming.

A full weekend of local football
Alexandria City opens the weekend Friday with a chance to improve to 5-0. Saturday brings Bishop Ireton’s road test and two home games—enough football to keep local fans busy well past the opening kickoff.
