The Nov. 5 public meeting has passed, but residents can still comment on the City’s draft flood plan until Dec. 1.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — If flooding has ever interrupted your commute, damaged your basement or sent water across a neighborhood street, Alexandria wants to hear from you.

The City is seeking public feedback on its draft Flood Resilience Plan through Tuesday, Dec. 1. The plan is intended to guide future work to reduce flooding and make neighborhoods more resilient.

According to the City’s October announcement, the draft incorporates flood-risk assessments, potential infrastructure projects and community feedback. City staff presented the plan at a Nov. 5 public meeting at Charles Houston Recreation Center; residents who missed the meeting can still participate in the comment process.

Homeowners, renters and business owners who have experienced recurring flooding can review the proposals and consider how the recommendations may affect their own blocks. Residents should consult the City’s official project resources for the draft document and submission instructions.

The deadline for public feedback is December 1. The City says it will use comments to help refine its next steps.
