ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Nov. 23, 2020, the School Board will vote on whether or not to change the names of T.C. Williams High School and Matthew Maury Elementary School. This comes after the start of The Identity Project, an extensive community discussion, which culminated in a presentation to the School Board (PDF) this past Monday, Nov. 16.

In this presentation, Superintendent Dr. Hutchings presented his recommendation for the School Board to approve changing the names of both schools.

Read why Dr. Hutchings is in favor of a change in an op-ed published last week by an international education trade magazine.

The School Board will vote on whether to change the school names at their Nov. 23 meeting at 5 p.m.

Watch the Nov. 23 meeting and vote live on Zoom.

  1. Such a hypocrite. Alexandria was named for John Alexander, a prolific slave trader. So until this guy gets the balls to take it all down – Alexandria, Washington, DC – just rimming the edges is BS.
