Blooms and Sunshine for Old Town Garden Tour
Old Town Alexandria was bursting with blooms on Saturday, April 17, when the Garden Club of Alexandria and Hunting Creek Garden Club hosted the annual Historic Garden Week tour.
Leslie Ariail designed a tablescape ready for the bridal party. Antique platters surrounded a golden urn overflowing with lilies, azaleas, delphiniums and tulips.
Alexandria, VA – Old Town Alexandria was bursting with blooms on Saturday, April 17, when the Garden Club of Alexandria and Hunting Creek Garden Club hosted the annual Historic Garden Week tour. Visitors were treated to beautiful wreaths and floral displays decorating the exteriors of homes along the tour route and a showcase of gorgeous tablescapes in the Lee-Fendall House garden.
A moss wreath decorated with eucalyptus, hellebores and ivy adorns the door at 207 Prince Street.
217 N Royal was decorated with wreathes of artichoke, tulips, roses and hellebores.
A living wreath created with plants including creeping jenny, citrus pansies and white euphorbia decorates the gate outside of 332 S St Asaph Street.
The door at Gadsby’s Tavern was filled with tulips, chrysanthemums, boxwood and magnolia leaves.
Roses, chrysanthemums and azaleas brighten a wreath of green at a garden gate on the tour route.
Jordan Richards designed the tablescape inspired by “Ladies Who Lunch.” The table is set for notable women philanthropists with gorgeous pink and green flowers and place settings.
Old Town garden tour ticket sales were limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and sold out early, and the tour was held outside to keep visitors safe. But the garden clubs creatively planned exterior floral displays to be enjoyed by anyone visiting the tour route on Saturday. Sunshine and beautiful springtime blooms – combined with the beautifully decorated exteriors and gardens – made it a perfect day to stroll through Old Town’s historic district.
Sunflowers, hellebores and a variety of greens overflow from a basket on the door of the Lee-Fendall House.
Beth Frank designed “Pop Sugar Picnic” with a dazzling array of brightly colored flowers intermixed with a bounty of candy and sweet treats.
The Ramsay House Visitor’s Center garden was fitted out with seasonal planters and floral arrangements filled with roses, hellebores and hydrangeas.
