ALEXANDRIA, VA-Know someone who wants hands-on experience for a future in IT and cybersecurity? The Cybersecurity Youth Apprenticeship Initiative (CYAI), funded by the US Department of Labor (DOL), could be the beginning of a young man or woman’s ticket to success.
CYAI partners with educational institutions and businesses to expand and develop cybersecurity apprenticeship programs for those aged 16 to 21.
Their newest partnership is with MySecureKid, an Arlington-based nonprofit. According to the company’s website, it places “the power of internet technology into the hands of disadvantaged children while equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need to use the internet safely.”
Working with CYAI, MySecureKid wlll have help recruiting youth and scaling up marketing strategies.
The apprenticeship, which launches Sept. 20, provides certification, hands-on experience, and placement within the security services business to successful applicants.Apprentices engage in a very intense training regimen that covers all required areas of system administration, as well as networking and security needed to understand and respond to cybersecurity threats.
The first cohort will be comprised of 10 to 15 youth. Apply online starting Aug. 1 at mskapprenticeship.org.
