Alexandria Sheriff’s Office Wins Community Champion Award for Outreach Efforts by ARHA
ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority recently honored the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office with the Community Champion Award. Sheriff Sean Casey and Sergeant Victor Ignacio received plaques as part of a ceremony to recognize the Office’s positive outreach with people ARHA supports.
It was selected for contributing to ARHA’s mission of serving “residents and ultimately improving their quality of life,” according to Gaynelle Bowden-Diaz, Director of Resident and Community Services at ARHA.
Over the last few months, the Sheriff’s Office has read to students at the Ruby Tucker Center, coordinated gifts and guests at the Winter Wonderland at Charles Houston, assisted at an archaeology program in Samuel Madden, worked with seniors at the Robust Walkathon, helped distribute free backpacks and coats to children, and promoted public safety at National Night Out and community cookouts in several neighborhoods.
In a brief statement, Sheriff Casey expressed gratitude to Bowden-Diaz and the ARHA board for naming the Sheriff’s Office Community Champion.
“We love working with our neighbors and being recognized by ARHA is a special honor because they understand the importance of partnerships, particularly when it comes to residents’ well-being,” Casey said.
In addition to events in ARHA neighborhoods, the Sheriff’s Office also helps with transportation for residents and Meals on Wheels.
