Alexandria City Council Votes to Cut Metro Parking Costs at City-Owned Lots
New policy permits $2 flat rate at most garages and parking lots
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria City Council voted to reduce prices during Metro’s summer shutdown. The policy will go into effect on May 24 and last until September 8. Council made the vote early after an all-night meeting on Wednesday, May 15.
The rate change is intended to keep traffic off streets during the shutdown, which will impact all Blue and Yellow Line stations south of Reagan National Airport.

The majority of city parking garages and lots will have a $2 flat rate after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. An exception to this policy is the Alexandria courthouse parking garage, which will have a $1 flat rate at those times.

Can someone explain to me how lowering the parking rate AFTER work hours during the week and on the weekends is going to help with traffic congestion? I’m honestly confused by this.
