Alexandria Mayor Tapped for Global Leadership Program

Alexandria, VA – Mayor Alyia Gaskins has been selected for the ninth class of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, a prestigious nine-month executive program for mayors from around the world.
Gaskins joins 47 mayors representing 17 countries who will receive immersive leadership training through the Bloomberg Philanthropies, Harvard Kennedy School, and Harvard Business School. The program kicked off with a four-day session in New York City in July.
“I’m honored and excited,” Gaskins said. “This program will strengthen our city’s leadership and help us deliver results using the innovation and creativity of both our residents and City staff.”
The initiative combines classroom instruction, virtual seminars, and field-based learning. Participating cities also receive access to advanced training for department heads and the opportunity to host Bloomberg Harvard City Hall Fellows.
Since its launch in 2017, the program has trained over 350 mayors and more than 600 senior city leaders across 41 countries. Gaskins joins a distinguished group of alumni that includes the mayors of Philadelphia, Amsterdam, Seattle, and Albuquerque.
