ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria Children’s Chorus (ACC) is now welcoming new singers as it launches its 10th season of making music in Alexandria.

Rehearsals begin Tuesday, January 13, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Rd, Alexandria, VA 22302. ACC is open to children in Kindergarten through Grade 6, and no audition is required. Singers do not need to live in Alexandria to participate, and families are invited to visit a rehearsal through Tuesday, February 10, to see if the chorus is the right fit.

Tuition for the spring season is $400, and generous scholarships are available—financial need will never be a barrier to participation in the Alexandria Children’s Chorus.

This milestone season will culminate in a festive 10th Anniversary Spring Concert, featuring the premiere of a new work by emerging composer Kara Stacy Bedwell, according to Artistic Director Dr. Benjamin Hutchens.

“In addition to this capstone celebration, our singers will take part in a series of community performances, including the 53rd Annual MLK Memorial Program, which showcase their musical growth and strengthens our connections throughout Alexandria,” Hutchens said.

About the Alexandria Children’s Chorus

Proud to be Alexandria’s only children’s community chorus, the Alexandria Children’s Chorus (ACC) was founded in 2015 as a 501(c)3 non-profit and originally called The Del Ray Kinderchoir.

They provide an opportunity for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6 to experience the joy of singing in a non-competitive environment, develop and strengthen fundamental musicianship skills, and enrich the community around them. Children will sing from the rich offerings of American and international folk music and classical repertoire.

This fall, the young musicians of the Alexandria Children’s Chorus had a busy and fulfilling semester. They presented two formal concerts, including a special collaborative performance with the Alexandria Choral Society, and took part in four community concerts: Del Ray’s Art on the Avenue, a joint performance with youth choirs at Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Del Ray Christmas Tree Lighting, and a festive holiday program at Paul Spring Retirement Community.

Last spring, ACC was featured in the inaugural One Voice Alexandria Choral Festival at Schlesinger Hall in May 2025 alongside over 400 other singers from seven Alexandria-based choirs.

“The Alexandria Children’s Chorus is proud to bring exceptional youth music performances to our community,”Hutchens, “and we love sharing that joy beyond the concert stage.”

The ACC is available for hire for private and corporate events, offering warmth, artistry, and youthful energy to any occasion. They are also eager to partner with local organizations, festivals, and community groups, continuing their mission to make music accessible and uplifting throughout Alexandria.
