City of Alexandria Seeking Volunteers for Emergency Exercise in July
Takes place July 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Minnie Howard
ALEXANDRIA, Va -The City is asking for volunteers to take part in an emergency exercise designed to evaluate the region’s ability to dispense medication in response to an anthrax attack.
The exercise, known as Capital Fortitude, will take participants through a simulated medication dispensing site. No actual medications will be dispersed. Volunteers will go through the same protocols and procedures that they would employ in a real disaster. The Alexandria Health Department will oversee this Point of Dispensing exercise.
Volunteers are required to register HERE. All participants will receive a summer fun kit as a thank-you. People of all ages and groups – parents, church and community leaders, boy scouts, corporate employees, and the general public – are asked to sign up in advance. Anyone willing to help is welcome. No prior training or experience is necessary. Children under 16 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please allow at least two hours to complete the exercise.
The exercise is scheduled for Friday, July 19 at T.C. Williams Minnie Howard Campus on 3801 West Braddock Road from 9 a.m. to noon.
