Packards and ‘Orphan’ Cars Roll Into Old Town for Free Lyceum Show Sept. 19
The free Old Town show brings 1930s–1950s Packards and other long-gone automobile marques to The Lyceum parking lot.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Old Town is getting a dose of chrome, hood ornaments and automotive nostalgia this Saturday when a free Classic Car Show rolls into the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum.
The show is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Lyceum parking lot at 201 S. Washington St. It is co-sponsored by Packards Virginia and the Office of Historic Alexandria.
According to Visit Alexandria and the Office of Historic Alexandria, visitors can expect Packards dating from the 1930s through the 1950s along with other so-called “orphan” cars — vehicles made by manufacturers that are no longer in business.
That means the lineup can go well beyond Packard. Previous editions have featured marques such as Hudson, Studebaker, Oldsmobile and other names that once filled American roads but have since disappeared from new-car showrooms.
The outdoor show is free, and visitors can also step inside The Lyceum to explore the museum’s Alexandria history exhibits and museum shop.
Owners of qualifying orphan vehicles are invited to register through the event organizers. More information is available from Packards Virginia at 703-424-5871.
