Volunteers Still Needed for Art on the Avenue in Del Ray
Organizers are recruiting community members to help power the 31st annual Del Ray arts festival on Saturday, October 3.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Art on the Avenue needs volunteers to help turn Mount Vernon Avenue into one of Alexandria’s biggest celebrations of art, music, food and community on Saturday, October 3.
The 31st annual festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Mount Vernon Avenue between Hume and Bellefonte avenues in Del Ray. More than 350 local and regional artists are expected, along with live music, international food, children’s activities and the festival’s popular pie-baking contest.
But before the tents go up and the crowds arrive, organizers need community members willing to pitch in and help keep the day running smoothly.
“AOA is only as successful as the volunteers, and we can’t have our event without your support,” said Lindsey Swanson, volunteer chair for Art on the Avenue.
People interested in helping can review the available assignments and shifts on the Art on the Avenue volunteer registration page. Organizers are also asking Alexandrians to share the opportunity with friends, neighbors, coworkers and anyone who might enjoy joining the team.
Volunteering offers a chance to experience the festival from the inside while supporting the artists, musicians, small businesses and community groups that make the avenue come alive. Whether you are an Art on the Avenue regular or attending for the first time, this is an opportunity to take an active role in one of Del Ray’s signature traditions.
The Zebra recently previewed what visitors can expect at the 2026 festival. Additional information is available from the official Art on the Avenue website.
