No Yellow Line Trains This Weekend—What Alexandria Riders Need to Know

Track work will close the Yellow Line for two consecutive weekends, while Blue Line trains provide altered service to every Alexandria station.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Metro riders will need a different plan this weekend: no Yellow Line trains will operate Saturday or Sunday.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority track work will suspend Yellow Line service on Sept. 19–20. The same service pattern will return the following weekend, Sept. 26–27, according to a Sept. 17 City of Alexandria transportation notice.

Blue Line Trains Will Serve Huntington

Alexandria’s stations will not be left without rail service. Blue Line trains will alternate their destinations between Franconia-Springfield and Huntington.

That means riders at Huntington, Eisenhower Avenue, King Street–Old Town, Braddock Road and Potomac Yard should check the destination displayed on each train rather than assuming every Blue Line train follows the same route.

There is another important change: transfers will not be available at Pentagon station during the work.

Passengers who normally use the Yellow Line for a direct trip toward L’Enfant Plaza, Gallery Place or Mount Vernon Square should allow extra travel time and check WMATA’s trip planner before leaving.

The Shutdown Happens Again Next Weekend

The altered service is scheduled for two sets of dates:

• Saturday–Sunday, Sept. 19–20
• Saturday–Sunday, Sept. 26–27

WMATA says the interruption is needed for planned track maintenance. Riders can review the official service map and check the agency’s planned track-work page for the latest information.
