Girls Flag Football Makes Alexandria City History Wednesday
ALEXANDRIA, VA— A new chapter in Alexandria City High School sports begins under the lights Wednesday night.
The Titans’ first girls flag football team will play its first home game Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at Parker-Gray Memorial Stadium, according to Theogony, Alexandria City High School’s student newspaper.
Student journalists Lillian Coulby, Esperanza Sequeira-Oronoz and Jamie Hank reported Sept. 24 that the new program is coached by Calvin Davis and includes players such as Ambika Varma and Ryleigh Barnes-Thomas. Their original reporting describes a team building skills, confidence and its own identity in a sport that is quickly attracting more girls across the region.
The Washington Commanders have helped support the sport’s growth, Theogony reported. Wednesday’s game gives Alexandria residents an early chance to see the new Titans program at home—and to support student-athletes at the start of something entirely new for the school.
