Alexandria, VA – Cyclists will take to the roads and trails of the Mount Vernon District on Saturday, Oct. 31, for the 11th annual Tour de Mount Vernon community bike ride.

Hosted by Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck, the event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Workhouse Arts Center, 9518 Workhouse Way in Lorton. Riders will travel through the district’s Potomac Banks historic, ecological and cultural sites on a route that includes paved roads and paved trails, along with some challenging sections.

The county describes the ride as rain or shine. Ride monitors and Fairfax County Police will be on hand to help with directions and safety.

The annual ride is one of those fall events that manages to be both recreational and a reminder of what is close to home: river views, historic sites, parks and neighborhoods that are easier to notice at bicycle speed than from behind a windshield.

The Mount Vernon District’s event page describes 20- and 40-mile options; riders should review the final route, registration status and ride requirements before heading to Lorton, as the county’s online listing currently notes that registration is not accepting entries.
