Make a Difference Day 2026: Volunteer in Alexandria Oct. 24

Alexandria, VA – Mobilizing volunteers since 1992, Make a Difference Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of October. This October 24, join a service event and make a positive impact.
The Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail is an active partner with Volunteer Alexandria, hosting service opportunities nearly every weekend. On Saturday, October 24, get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather while beautifying a segment of the trail by Gravelly Point. Volunteer tasks may include using pruners and loppers to cut vegetation, using hand saws to cut tree branches, sweeping or using a leaf blower, and picking up trash. Bring your friends and family, have fun, and make a difference together. Groups and children are welcome.
Unable to make it to a service event? Food insecurity remains high across Alexandria. Consider donating nonperishables to ALIVE! and make a difference at the dinner table for members of your community. Fall is also the perfect time to help elderly neighbors clear leaves and garden beds. And as you prepare your closets for winter, consider donating warm coats and other winter apparel to nonprofits in need, like Koinonia Community Services.
Volunteer Alexandria is here to help you connect. Check out additional opportunities below or visit our website to review all open opportunities, as well as current donation requests from local nonprofits. Together we can Make a Difference.
A donation to Volunteer Alexandria (https://bit.ly/VolALXgive) enables us to continue connecting caring people to needs in our community. Thank you for your support.
