ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria Metro riders should plan extra travel time this weekend as Blue Line trains stop short of downtown Washington and three stations close for track work.

On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, there will be no Blue Line train service between Reagan National Airport and Foggy Bottom-GWU, according to Metro’s official weekend advisory.

Arlington Cemetery, Rosslyn and Court House stations will be closed. Yellow Line trains are scheduled to operate normally, giving many Alexandria riders another rail option into Washington.

Metro will operate free shuttle buses during Metrorail hours. Local buses will connect Foggy Bottom-GWU, Rosslyn, Arlington Cemetery and Pentagon. An express shuttle between Clarendon and Pentagon is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. only.

Orange Line riders will have no train service between Clarendon and Foggy Bottom-GWU, with free express and local shuttle service available. Silver Line trains will not operate between Clarendon and Downtown Largo or New Carrollton.

Metro says the closures are needed to remove and reinstall switch timbers and insulators and replace fasteners.

Saturday rail hours are 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Sunday hours are 6 a.m. to midnight. Riders should use Metro’s trip planner shortly before leaving because shuttle travel and transfers may add time.

The disruption overlaps with Amtrak’s nine-day “Pause for Progress” work south of Union Station. VRE’s separate modified weekday schedule begins Monday, Oct. 19.
