Alexandria, VA – National Centenarian’s Day is September 22 – a day to honor those who have reached 100 years of age.  The number of centenarians has increased over the years. As per the recent United Nation’s report, there are around 570,000 centenarians in the world. The percentage of female centenarians is higher than male centenarians, and most live in urban areas.

To honor the lives of these special people, the City of Alexandria, in collaboration with the City’s Successful Aging Committee, will honor its Centenarians before the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September at 12 at 5:30 pm in the Vola Lawson Lobby at City Hall (301 King Street).

We are reaching out to our community to identify and honor the men and women who have lived a century or longer. To be eligible, individuals must be 100 years or older by December 31, 2023. Alexandria Centenarians who choose to participate in the presentation will receive a certificate honoring their lifetime experiences and achievements, a recognition coin and a reception with City and community leaders paying tribute for a long and rewarding life. If you are a Centenarian or know one, we want to honor you!  Please contact Lindsay Hemphill at Senior Services of Alexandria at 703-836-4414, ext. 110.

The Successful Aging Committee includes representatives from Senior Services of AlexandriaSt. Martin de Porres Senior Center (Catholic Charities), the Charles Houston Senior Center (Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority) and the City of Alexandria.
