ALEXANDRIA, VA– The town had been waiting. Surely the guys at Pork Barrel were going to do something to help out their government crowd. And then it happened. This morning.

Social media was abuzz within minutes of the popular Pork Barrel BBQ Restaurant’s announcement that it would offer free pulled pork sandwiches to furloughed federal employees for as long as the government shutdown lasts.

Owners Bill Blackburn and “Mango” Mike Anderson published this statement on their Facebook page around 10:30 on Tuesday, January 2:

“We are all in.

We been getting questions about shutdown sandwiches. Starting today we are offering all out of work, furloughed federal government employees (and out of work federal contractors) a free pulled pork sandwich. We hope to see this end soon, the offer is good until this shutdown is over.”

Pork Barrel BBQ is located at 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, bbqdelray.com.
