ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA) has started a video campaign to encourage youth to stay away from alcohol. Available on SAPCA’s YouTube channel, the videos were made by T.C. Williams High School students.

The first two feature youth explaining the reasons why they do not drink. In fact, the majority of this city’s youth do not drink. Between 2011 and 2019, teen alcohol use decreased 52 percent in Alexandria.

The campaign was funded by a grant from Virginia ABC that promotes alcohol education and prevention. More videos will be released in the coming weeks and posted to social media.

SAPCA has tools and resources available to help parents approach their children about the dangers of alcohol. The materials also address other substances i.e, marijuana and e-cigarettes), healthy decision making, avoiding risk, and how to respond to peer pressure.

Visit SAPCA’s website to learn more about the coalition and find assistance.
