PHOTOS: First Look at the National World War One Memorial Still Under Construction

Today, November 9, 2018, the World War One Centennial Commission invited the public to visit the site of the National World War Memorial, Washington D.C. Congress authorized the World War One Centennial Commission in 2013. It was established to honor the four million Americans who served during the war.

The memorial will be located with the General of the Armies, John J. Pershing Memorial at Pershing Park (14th and Pennsylvania Ave. NW). This event is a first look at the National World War One Memorial still under construction. Photos by Harry Merritt

U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Brass Quintet performed during the event.

Mr. Terry Hamby, Chairman of the World War One Centennial Commissioner addresses the audience.

Secretary of Veteran Affairs the Honorable Robert Wilkie was a guest speaker.

As Taps played a large wreath was placed representing the USA.

Military honors were rendered during the event.

50 wreaths were placed at the memorial by representatives from each state.
